DePuy Attune Knee Replacement

Weintraub Law is representing clients who have been implanted with the DePuy Attune Knee System Replacement in lawsuits alleging that the manufacturer failed to warn them of dangerous risks associated with the device.

DePuy Attune Knee System Failure Rate

In 2017 the Journal of Knee Surgery published a study titled: "Unusually High Rate of Early Failure of Tibial Component in ATTUNE Total Knee Arthroplasty System at Implant-Cement Interface."

The study found that hospital databases were reporting a high number of revisions of knee implants due to loosening of tibial components.  These failures may be occurring because the device was designed with an abnormally smooth surface resulting in the medical glue not properly bonding the implant to the patient’s tibia bone. This can cause a range of complications, such as loosening and dislocation of the device, in addition to metal debris.

Risks of a Revision Surgery

In addition to enduring a second surgery, which has the same risks and side effects as the original implantation surgery, there are additional risks in patients undergoing a revision surgery. When you have a second operation in the same location, you face an increased risk of morbidity due to infection, a risk that the revision surgery will not be effective due to additional scar tissue, and other problems associated with the revision surgery.

Complications

There is an inherent risk when you undergo a surgical procedure. In addition to overall complications, if you’ve had a DePuy knee implanted you may be suffering from:

  • Difficulty walking

  • Swelling of the knee

  • Lack of flexibility

  • Elevated levels of cobalt, or chromium in your body

  • Loosening of the implant within your body

  • Bone fracture within your implant site

  • Nerve, muscle, and bone damage
